Interview KRONDEV ENTERTAINMENT - Society’s Paradigms

Today’s interview is with game dev KronDev Entertainment for their game Society’s Paradigms. I will be conducting these quick interviews to help support small Indie Dev’s and also inspire new ones to hopefully help them on their journey to creating their first game! If you would like to be interviewed please feel free to contact me!

What is the name of your current game your working on?

Society’s Paradigms

Game dev / Studio Name or Names?

KronDev Entertainment

Game Genre?

Roguelite, Hack and Slash, RPG

Tell Everyone A Bit about your game & How did you come up with the idea?

Society’s Paradigms is an action-packed social commentary based on the innovative combination of Rogue-lite and RPG elements. Explore a randomly generated world to obtain new skills and abilities. Experiment and combine passive and active skills to achieve insane combos and satisfying combat. The premise of our project comes from two ideas: using a video game as a medium for artistic expression by sending powerful messages through text, language, music, and actions, and offering the market a new type of game that combines only the best of other genres.

What platforms are you planning to release on?

PC (This might get changed in the future to include more platforms)

What inspired the art direction and feel of your game?

Blasting visual effects, striking lighting, and juicy combat were taken into account when creating the visuals for our game. Over that, we created a rather simplistic yet intriguing pixel art that brings a retro vibe that mellows down the explosiveness of the fights in a complementary matter.

What do you think makes a good game?

There are numerous aspects to be considered when thinking about what makes a good game.

First of all, the gameplay should feel satisfying and immersive. Never should the game ask the player to do too many repetitive tasks one after the other or spawn too many, or rather not enough, enemies. Here, at KronDev Entertainment, we believe that balance is key to any good game.

Secondly, we find it extremely important that besides balance, games take into account the influence of good visuals that can complement the gameplay. Visuals have two roles: deliver the gameplay and send a message to the player, whether it be clear text or an emotion. Through visuals, we can offer insane combos and fantastic storytelling.

All in all, we find good games to have finely calculated gameplay and catchy visuals, as these two become the perfect formula for creating a high-quality product in this domain.

What has been the biggest challenge for your game been so far?

Almost every aspect. From the development stage, where the terrain/dungeon generation doesn’t work properly or the AI needs improvements, to the advertising campaign, as it is extremely difficult for a small indie team to become relevant in such a busy and oversaturated market. Artistic choices do not fall under the concept of “easy jobs” either. With visuals, we have to deliver more than nice-looking images, we are giving life to a whole world with its diverse people who have unique personalities and come from distinctive social classes. To sum it all up, everything must work properly and look memorable.

What games are your biggest influences?

The are several games that have an impact on our project. Some good examples would be The Legend of Zelda, Hades, NieR Automata, the Final Fantasy franchise, The Binding of Isaac to mention a few.

What's the biggest reward in being an indie game dev?

The greatest reward for us is the relationships we make with people online who are interested in our project. Throughout almost two years of development, we established so many close bonds with people from all over the world. We found volunteers to help us with certain tasks that we alone could have had no chance to bring to an end, like composing music, for instance. The fact that we are surrounded by supportive people and also the fact that our work is appreciated by many makes for the best experiences as an indie dev.

What Indie games are you excited for this year?

Some indie games that look like a blast for this year would be: “She Dreams Elsewhere”, “Wytchwood”, and “Eastward”. We wish them many sales!
